    Neil is CEO and founder of Serone. He is instrumental in setting the strategic path of the firm’s investment strategy, infrastructure build, recruitment, marketing, client related activities and maintains overall responsibility for all aspects of the company.

    Previously, he was Managing Director and Head of the European Structured Credit Agency group at Morgan Stanley. He has experience across a variety of structured and vanilla credit markets, having previously held trading, distribution and credit risk management roles at Deutsche Bank, Citigroup and JP Morgan Chase. Furthermore, he has structured and syndicated a variety of innovative transactions for market leading credit managers across corporate and asset-backed asset classes, in both cash and derivative format. Because of his past experiences, he has built up an extensive global sourcing and distribution network, which complements his present role.

    Neil holds a Masters in Finance from London Business School and a BEng in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Southampton University.

  • Adrian King
    Adrian KingChief Operating Officer & Chief Risk Officer

    Adrian is COO and CRO of Serone, and has responsibility for the non-investment aspects of Serone. Previously, Adrian was Executive Director and Head of the Multi Asset Class Group within the Prime Brokerage unit at Morgan Stanley, where he was responsible for managing and developing the fixed income and FX platform for hedge fund clients. Previously he managed the Fixed Income Client Service Group at Morgan Stanley, which provided middle and back office functions for the fixed income client business in Europe.  Adrian holds a BA Honours in Finance from Sheffield Hallam University and is a member of the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment.

  • Serj Walia
    Serj WaliaChief Investment Officer

    Serj is Chief Investment Officer for Serone Capital.  He has managed the award winning Key Opportunities Fund since its inception in early 2012.  Before this he had built up a decade of buy-side experience at KBC Financial Products in London.  As Senior Portfolio Manager he was responsible for CLO/CDO/ABS investments and trading, managing a multi-billion dollar portfolio that was one of the largest of its kind in Europe.  Prior to KBCFP, he held senior positions in structured finance and credit derivatives at Standard & Poor’s and Credit Suisse Financial Products.  He holds a Masters in Finance from London Business School and a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of Birmingham.

    • Stuart Chapman
      Stuart ChapmanDirector – Investment Research and Analytics

      Stuart is an investment analyst at Serone. Stuart primarily focuses on the evaluation, execution, and monitoring of structured credit investment opportunities. Previously, Stuart worked at HSBC, first in the Americas ABS Origination group, but primarily in the EMEA Leveraged & Acquisition Finance group, which originates, executes and distributes leveraged, investment-grade, and infrastructure financing products for large corporate and private equity clients. Stuart holds a M.Sc. in Financial Mathematics from Imperial College London and a B.Sc. in Physics from Durham University. Stuart is also a CFA charterholder.

    • Cecilia Yu
      Cecilia YuInvestment Analyst

      Cecilia is a trader and investment analyst at Serone Capital. Aside from execution in the structured credit space, Cecilia focuses on asset valuation, investment recommendation, and trading strategy, primarily in European MBS/ABS and ABSCDO. Cecilia started her career with Citigroup’s trading analysts program,  having gained experience in fixed income derivatives trading, she joined the Global Securitized Group to become a market maker in European and UK RMBS, NCF RMBS, ABS, and SME. She also gained risk management knowledge at JP Morgan in the securitized products area, including RMBS, CMBS, and loans. Cecilia holds a M.Sc in Financial Engineering and Risk Management from Imperial College London and a B.Comm in Economics and Maths from University College Cork, National University of Ireland.

    • Nick Wilcox
      Nick WilcoxDirector – Operations and Compliance

      Nick is head of Operations and Compliance at Serone. Nick has over 18 years’ experience in trading, business management and middle office roles within structured credit and derivatives at Citi, Merrill Lynch, ICAP / TriOptima and Erste Group. Nick holds a BA Honours in Economics from Northumbria University and an MSc in Information Technology from Birkbeck College, University of London.

    • Hassan Jeraj
      Hassan JerajInvestor Relations

      Hassan works in investor relations. He has several years of experience focussing on credit markets; beginning his career with Bank of America’s credit arbitrage desk, which traded all European credit instruments; bond, loans, derivative and securitised products. Subsequently he moved to Societe Generale where he traded financial CDS in a market making capacity, primarily on European insurers with a secondary focus on banks and credit events in the sector. Following on from his time in banking Hassan was a founding partner at a financial consultancy firm that advised hedge funds on effective marketing to investors. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of York.

      Alex works as an Investment Analyst. He joined Serone as a graduate and completed our rotation program. He holds a BA (Hons) in Economics from the University of Cambridge.

    • Jonathan Kong
      Jonathan KongAnalyst

      Jonathan works as an analyst, supporting all the other teams within Serone. He has recently graduated from Durham university and holds a MMath (Hons) degree in Mathematics. Prior to joining he has worked as a Summer Intern within Standard Life Investment’s Fixed Interest Team and as a Summer Analyst within Shanghai Commercial bank’s FX and Credit dealing team. Jonathan is also a CFA Level II candidate.

      Will works as an analyst, supporting the teams within Serone. He has recently graduated from University College London and holds a BSc (Hons) degree in Economics and Statistics. Prior to joining, he completed an 8-week summer internship in debt capital markets.

        Hollie works as an executive assistant to the Management Committee of Serone Capital Management. Additionally she provides support to all the other teams within the manager. She holds a BA (Hons) from Southampton Solent University.

        • Mark Partington
          Mark PartingtonAdvisor

          Mark focuses on capital introduction, primarily relating to Asian and insurance sector investors. Much of Mark’s career was spent in Reinsurance with Aon where he ran the Tokyo reinsurance segment in the mid 1990s. He was at the forefront of the convergence between capital markets and insurance producing the first securitisation (Pacific Re) for Aon Capital markets in 1997. Having completed a Programme for Management Development at Harvard in 1999, Mark for a time worked for ACM in London, then raised strategic capital for a leading London market insurer, Kiln and latterly worked in the carbon markets as a consultant to Trading Emissions Plc; he was also an early stage investor in Climate Change Capital. Mark has also worked with a leading emerging markets manager, Polunin Capital Partners, in their strategic positioning in the Japanese market. Mark is a fluent Japanese speaker. Over the years he has developed good contacts in Japan at the highest level in business, academia and government including working with the British Embassy in promoting British financial product providers’ entry into the Japanese market.

          Sara is an Executive Advisor to Serone. Sara retired from Intermediate Capital Group Plc (“ICG”) in mid-2008 where she was one of Europe’s leading institutional investors. Sara co-founded the Institutional Fund Management business at ICG in 1999 with the launch of the first European corporate CDO. She took over sole responsibility for the business and investment strategy for the credit fund management business at ICG in 2004 and grew assets under management to EUR6 billion across a range of products including CDO’s, leveraged and unlevered funds focusing on European sub-investment grade credit. Prior to joining ICG, Sara worked as a Portfolio Manager at Bear Stearns International in London investing in high yield bonds, distressed debt and special situation investments. Sara graduated from Imperial College of Science and Technology in 1984. She was a founding member of the European High Yield Association and served as a Board Director representing the investor community from 2000 to 2007.

          Howard is an Executive Advisor to Serone. Howard retired from his position as a Senior Advisor at Morgan Stanley Investment Management for the Senior Loan Group following an eight-year tenure leading the team as a Managing Director. Prior to joining Morgan Stanley, Howard was a senior portfolio manager for senior loans at Pilgrim Investments. From 1982 to 1995, Howard was a Managing Director with Bank of America and Continental Bank in their Lending and Capital Markets divisions. Before joining Continental Bank, Howard was a Managing Director of Wells Fargo Asia Limited, the Asian merchant banking subsidiary of Wells Fargo Bank NA based in Hong Kong. Between 1974 and 1980, he held a series of positions with Wardley, the investment banking subsidiary of HSBC in Hong Kong, Singapore and Bangkok. He began his career with Barclays Bank for which he worked in the United Kingdom, Malta and the US Virgin Islands. Howard received a B.S. in history from Northwestern University and an M.A. from the University of Chicago. He is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and a member of the Economic Club of Chicago.

        • Paul Varotsis
          Paul VarotsisAdvisor

          Paul is an Executive Advisor to Serone. He is also a Senior Independent Director on a listed structured credit fund, which is managed by a large multinational financial firm. He was a partner at Reoch Credit Partners LLP where he worked as a consultant for financial institutions and advised investors, asset managers, intermediaries and software vendors on structured credit solutions. Mr Varotsis was Director of CDOs at Barclays Capital from 2002 to 2004 and Executive Director, Structured Credit Trading, at Lehman Brothers from 2000 to 2002.  He spent ten years (1991 to 2000) at the Chase Manhattan Bank and its predecessors; his last position was head of Credit and Capital Management (Europe Africa Middle East). He was European Chairman of the ISDA committee that participated in the drafting of the 2003 Credit Derivatives Definitions and advised the Bank of England and other regulators on the appropriate framework for the market’s development. Mr Varotsis holds an MBA from the Stanford Graduate School of Business, a diplôme from the Institut d’Études Politiques de Paris and a diplôme from the Institut Supérieur de Gestion. Mr Varotsis is a Trustee of the Friends of the Muséum national d’Histoire naturelle, Paris.
